Amberly & Jason, Engaged!

Shortly after I began dating the man I would later marry, he took me to a party and introduced me to some of his friends and colleagues. The hostess and I hit it off, and one crazy straw, one (large) bottle of tequila, and one long night later our friendship was cemented. The sort of night legends are born from.

Fast forward, and you could not imagine my excitement when Amberly got engaged recently in Mexico to the incredibly charming Jason. Based on his first name, which he shares with my husband, I liked him from the get go. But it doesn’t hurt how well he cares for and about my friend.

I was pretty giddy late this summer when Amberly messaged me on Instagram and said she wanted to talk about wedding photography. In what is a common thread with us, we met for margaritas (again with the tequila) to discuss their wedding plans, what working with me for a day looks like, and other details. I was pretty excited when we all signed the contract and agreed to look for a fall afternoon to do an engagement shoot.

We postponed it once, and on our rescheduled day I watched all afternoon as the clouds hung low in the sky. I don’t mind clouds, but I had really been hopeful for some streaming, late fall, afternoon, sunshine. Amberly wanted not just the Gorge…but the feeling of a big sky and clouds and space. We met and made the brief hike to where we were shooting, and by the time we reached the top, the clouds parted ever so slightly. And while maybe no one would believe it, except the three of us who were there, but as I said, “You know, I think we’ve got everything we need,” the sun slipped behind dark clouds and would not reappear again. Mother Nature gave us an amazing hour together in the Gorge.

I am looking forward to our next fall afternoon in the Gorge when Amberly and Jason say I Do. Congratulations, I am so happy and excited for you both, and cannot wait to celebrate with you!
